When selling your home your Shorewest, REALTOR® may bring prospective buyers by for a showing at any point. They will give you as much notice as possible but sometimes it may be short notice due to scheduling conflicts. This means that your home should be show-room ready to make a good impression without having to take hours to clean. Luckily we have five simple tips that will keep you sane while selling your home!1. Have a strategy when cleaning each room. Do you ever walk into a room and feel overwhelmed by where to start or what to clean? Take our advice; go from top-to-bottom and left-to-right. For example, dust the ceiling fan and the top of the bookshelf before vacuuming or picking up toys off the floor. This will become a natural progression and take the stress out of straightening up your rooms.
2. Pack up what you don’t use. When showing your home, the easiest way to get rid of clutter is to put it away in storage! Even things that are in a storage room, no one likes to see rooms packed tight with stuff, so put it out of sight.
3. Make the small actions count. Don’t make yourself crazy trying to deep clean your entire home! Take small steps each day to clean and you will have so much less to do before a showing. Once the kids are done with toys, make sure they put them away. Or once the dishwasher is done drying; make sure to put everything away immediately to make room for the dirty dishes. These small steps every day will help make your life easier!
4. Running out of time? Focus on the kitchen and bathroom. These two rooms should be the cleanest at every showing. Countertops should be clear of clutter and the shower and tiles should sparkle! By focusing on these two rooms, it will give the appearance of a very clean home.
5. Add the little touches. A bowl of fruit, a couple books on the coffee table, a bottle of wine and wineglasses in the sitting room create a feeling that the prospective buyer will love!
Remember that living in your home while selling takes work and patience. It won’t be perfect every time but every showing will go a little smoother. Don’t stress over little mistakes, at the end of the day it is still a home that is lived in! Ask your Shorewest, REALTOR® if you have questions about how to stage your home!
